Verona

It was our dear Louise's birthday on October 22nd, so we went to Gardaland at Lake Garda. It was a cute little amusement park that was completely decorated for Halloween. That's something from home I have been missing so much. I've seen maybe three pumpkins in the grocery store which were pretty pathetic, but Gardaland has them everywhere you look.

After the park closed, we headed over to Verona to check into our hotel. We got dinner at Mexicali which was pretty good for a Mexican restaurant in Italy, although they didn't know what salsa was and guac was pre packaged.

The next morning, we woke up ate breakfast and headed out to explore Verona. Our first stop was the Verona Arena. Originally built in 30 AD and is still used today for opera performances. I always find it so incredible and humbling to be in a place that has been around for that long and to think about the history that was made in all these places I've been so lucky to travel to.

After admiring the arena, we walked over to Juliets house which was packed with tourists. The courtyard was owned by of one of the two families that inspired Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet. It was much different that the movie Letters to Juliet portrayed it, but it was still something to see. There were so many people there that it was hard to get pictures and really enjoy it.

After squeezing our way out of the courtyard, we walked over to the Piazza delle Erbe, an old roman forum, to get lunch.

Stuffed from our lunch of homemade pasta, we headed over to the river to see the many beautiful bridges of Verona. There were trees lining the river that had just started to turn golden and lose their leaves. Which made everything feel so magical.

We crossed one of the bridges and hiked up to the castle to see a panoramic view of Verona. I think we could have sat there all day it was so beautiful.

When we got back over to the other side of the river, we did a little shopping and then got chocolate covered strawberries at our favorite chocolate shop, Venchi. It was a super quick little trip, but worth it to see such a historic little city.
